Don't knock it until you've tried it! Fresh milk without all the pasteurization and processing is pure nectar!

VISnorkeler, I agree with you. I don't even like the looks of it. But it's amazing to me to see how people manage here. There are many edible plants growing wild, and from time to time I see people not only from here, but crew from the ships, picking edibles.

I want to try that edible beach plant that I've forgotten the name of. I've seen it on Lindquist Beach on STT, and at Dorscht Beach on STX.

It would be interesting if someone developed an "island foraging" tour which included food and beverages made from foraged plants. Sign me up!

We have a smaller box that we've been adding to over the year when we see a good deal.
We have 15 tubes of toothpaste, razors, lots of batteries, reef safe sunblock (found it for $2 a can so i bought 20 cans lol) and my hair products. I use joico and I didn't see it on island so we stocked up on that.

The box is 12x12 and all neatly packed, hopefully it will save us a little bit of $.

Other than that I can't live there without my underwater camera set up and my snorkle gear.

PS: where do they sell paddle boards or kayaks on STX? I'm gonna need one of those when we get there, oh and a dinghy too for going to buck 😉

AandA, might be cheaper to see if walmart.com and drugstore.com have those items for the same or cheaper price. free shipping if you purchase a certain amount.

VI: 95% sure we're gonna be on STX.

We haven't heard back from STT on his applications for high up management so who knows. I'm kind of looking at it as: if he gets a higher paying job in STT we will probably be paying more for living than STX. So it's kinda like making the same? That make sense? We found several great places to rent for 800-1000 and in STT I think we're gonna need 1500 at least. Not a huge difference but after all the utilities it can get up there. If he does end up taking it on STT it would only be until he can get in with OMX on STX.

Rent, a stated above is what I was talking about. Are you seriously telling me that STT isnt less expensive that STX?

Rent is cheeper on STX, more so than normal, due to the closure of the refinery. But I thought other expenses were about the same: Wapa, market items, etc.... Am I wrong?

Always been my understanding too... Think she's got some misinformation somewhere down the line.

Don't ask me... I don't live there yet lol. I just know what ive researched and because higher traffic of the cruise ports (slower port on STX) most thing are more expensive in STT. It may NOT be the case, just the overall tone I got. Cars, gas and rental homes seem to be considerably more in STT from my reading. Frm second hand accounts of visitor friends to STT it doesnt seem to be a "friendly" either. Just what I heard. I am still kicking myself for not taking the plane over there for a day. Ugh stupid me.

I didn't think STX was that expensive at all. OTHER THAN eating out. That was craziness lol, but the food was REALLY good!

Yes, you've been misinformed on. As far as rentals go, STX rentals have always been a little less than those on STT but not greatly so. Gas was a little less expensive on STX when the refinery was producing but the difference wasn't significant - a moot point now anyway. Maybe when you move to STX and have some time you can pop on over to STT, stay for a while and judge "friendly" for yourself!

I looked at houses for rent in STT using flexmls and a 2 bedroom similar sq ft. With similar views and amenities average was 1500 as opposed to 900 on STX. Over a year that's a big difference.

OT: re friendliness: I find that because I'm an extrovert and overall not afraid of talking to new people I make fast friends. I give a friendly vibe out (not a sense of entitlement tude) and usually over my travels I get a friendly vibe back. Ironically I've only ever had a non friendly vibe here in Arizona lol.

I will defiantly come to STT when we get on island, OT I would love to buy u some drinks OT, your tenure on the islands provides some really awesome info!

Hey again! 🙂
As I have mentioned we are "moving" for 6 months and each bringing a suitcase. Considering we just did 6 months in SE Asia with a backpack this is a breeze but I was wondering what is a must bring I should not forget i.e. what should I purchase here that might be considerably more expensive there (toothpaste, lotion, sunscreen, razors, etc). I am one of those penny pinchers you hear about 🙂
Thanks and can't wait for this next adventure, nervous yes but that is only normal I am hoping! Looking forward to meeting all of you on the island of STX as well as hopefully exploring the rest of what the Caribbean Islands have to offer when the time presents itself! Thanks for the advice along the way also!!

As you have been told... everything is more expensive. Just bring your favorite clothes and a toilet kit. Your PC and phone and you will be ready to go...As long as you have enough money....
