.
I am a 26 just done with University without a major direction in life and ready to get out of this slump and get active again.
I have done maybe 200+ hours of research and reading and talking and believe me I know the downsides to moving there. The two worries are crime on STT and lack of dateable good looking women, however I can make do anywhere and will be working in the tourism/restaurant/club industry where alot of statesiders work.
I can deal with crime and know how to not get hustled or taken or look like a tourist. being 6'3'' i can def take care of myself. I just hope it is not BAD badk, like assault muggings and such. I lived In Philadelphia and Allentown and spent some time in NYC, so I know crime and ghettos.
my thoughts- dont look like a target and you wont be one.

Just moved out of my apt, sold or gave most of my stuff away and now am waiting for my car to sell. once it does I am going to pay off my debts and take the rest of the money with me. so hopefully I will be there by the end of next week.
I DO MY RESEARCH. looked up numerous places and companies on the island, sent out resumes to them with a solid cover letter even if they did not say they were hiring, i am determined and motivated. I browse all the sites and island trader(online) and have a good line on places to rent and cheap used cars(to start off with)

This site has helped TONS

I can make do anywhere and hope I love it there. I hope to get a car, a place and some face to face interviews in after 2 or 3 days on the island.

what else??? MAIN Point- anyone who can take things in stride will do fine, alot of people who complain are used to all nice things in life - condos and wegmans, blockbuster, DSL, target, malls, great customer service, etc etc.
But if you are flexiblethen you can make due, i am goingto be determined and start hard and work hard but always have time to relax.

I am shooting for a place by myself, northside of the island, hopefully with a nice view, thinking around $650-$850
I am not going to treat this as a seasonal fun vacation move, but as a solid change. even if i only stay a year and decide to leave, that is ok, but when I am doing it, I am gonna do it right.
Now when the island shows me some great single women and a good social scene with solid good people, that is when I will know i made the right choice.
It was either miami, Austin, or VI.... welp STT here I come

you only live once

... and i want to get some really good time spent in the water, on boats and/ deep sea fishing.

After all your research I'm not sure that with respect to your - being single, looking for boats, deep sea fishing and good social scene for 20somethings - that the North side is really where you want to live. I'm thinking more East End.

Your positive attitude and spirit will go a long way toward making whatever dream you choose to turn into your reality, a fact.

I wish you Godspeed in your life on STT and wherever it may take you.
