Shipping scooter from Florida
Hi to everyone who reads this.
I am interested in buying a scooter in Miami and shipping it to STX for personal use.
Ofcourse it would be foreign made 150-250 cc.
Do I need to insure it in order to have it registered and tag?
If so can any body recommend an insurer
Can anybody also explain the process and the necessary documents that I need to present
Thank you
Carlos
I don't know the formalities, but have you seen our roads? Hilly, twisty, pot-holes, overgrown, and more than our share of bad drivers (courteous, but bad)! I would suggest a car instead.
Thanks for the tip, But it gets expensive renting and yet not ready to send a car

You willneed to have insurance before you can get it registered.
Search the board for previous post about shipping a car. Same process.

Not only will you need insurance but you are going to pay duty again on the scooter...customs charges a duty fee for anything that is made outside of the USA.
Try shipping with VI Cargo. You can buy the scooter in Miami, drive over to VI Cargo (near the airport) and they charge by the cubic foot.
You will have to claim your cargo, take the papers to customs and pay the fees. Most likey you will have to take it for inspection at the DL bureau, and all the other items to register.
Most home owners policies cover scooters up to certain cc engine sizes, but check with the local insurance companies before you do anything.
My neighbor down the hill has 2 or 3 scooters and they all come in via VI Cargo a couple of years ago.
Since they don't drive fast, you should be able to dodge the pot holes, but good luck on missing the cars and drivers!
