Are there any celebrations or fireworks anywhere this year?

Thanks.

The only ones I've heard of are on STJ for carnival.

I suggest that they make a special run with the new ferry over from St Croix to the fireworks at the St John carnival. What's the worst that could happen?

RockyDock is having fun with your recency.
The previous ferry was run well up onto an island (Little St James?) after leaving St John's carnival several July 4ths ago.

Yep! The captain didn't notice the island in front of him.
Boom, done.
1 less ferry.
Hard on rocks to go with Cruzan on de rocks!

My wife and I went to the fireworks two years ago in St. John. We had heard a lot about it and splurged. Took the seaplane from STX to STT, cab to ferry, ferry to STJ.
Had a great dinner, and hung with the crowd waiting for the display. In classic USVI style, fireworks went off about two hours late, but the display was far more impressive than I imagined it might be. The people, the music, the food, the vibe, (and Cruzan infused refreshments) was a great time for all.
We'll worth the trip.

If you've seen one VI fireworks display, you've seen them all. Its hardly worth the effort to find parking and fight the crowds. You guys go ahead...I'll stay home.

Yes! A big community effort raised the money for the fireworks at the last minute. It won't be a puny show either, the crew doing it is from FL, it's all electronically wired so no delays between shoots. If you saw the boat parade fireworks and NYE this year, these ones will be even bigger!

So come to Fsted for July 4th! Going to be a blast! Literally 😉

Re the STJ fireworks, if the new ferry were running, but that's not happening until August ... 😀

It would be nice if the Department of Tourism and related sites would jump on the bandwagon, get on the stick and add the STX fireworks to their events calendars, last minute or not. A few strokes on the keyboard is all it takes to do an update. "Last minute" is highly subjective - such an undertaking isn't executed in just a couple of days.

Not subjective at all. The announcement that there would be no fireworks (on Facebook) and the raising of money and the last minute shipping happened in 3 or 4 days.

You may well be right - simply going on my personal involvement over several years in the planning of Carnival fireworks on STT. So the tourism sites are going to be updated today with the information or hasn't that yet been posted on FB?

I have no idea on updates to tourist sites. Just aware of the local activity.

I don't know if any of the 16 tourists here right now will be interested. 😛

Alright Fredricksted!
There is nothing more impressive than fireworks shot off a Caribbean beach.
Or Christmas on a Caribbean beach.
Or for that matter, drinking rum, paying taxes, getting root canal, or dying,... on a Caribbean beach.
I'm in!

The money was raised and the logistics sorted out for the fireworks in 36 hours. So yes, rather quickly! There is a Facebook event page, ads in the Avis, a radio ad that's been running for the past 5 days and posters going up soon. This is very very much a grassroots effort, we are doing as much as we can to promote in a very very short time period. The tourism department is aware of the event and has contributed to it. There's a lot of stuff they need to update on their website.

Stxm is being modest. It simply wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for them. Literally rallied and raised an unbelievable amount of money, contacted customs and a FW show company in like three days! Thanks so much! (tu)(tu)(tu) you rock!

Its funny how everyone was bashing David Johnson of Cane Bay Partners for being the "payday loan" monster sucking the life out of America's poor a few months ago.

Now, he's the community's savior and hero from contributing the vast majority of the funds to save the July 4th fireworks and everyone loves him again.

Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted the fireworks are funded and don't care whose money is used to fund them.
