Does anyone know a company that provides a good pre-paid phone card with internet service? Hopefully, someone has experience and knows the good from the bad.

I'm looking for one that would give me a new local number,

I think AT&T, Boost, and Innovative are your only options for unlocked phone cards. We don't have all the options available in the States.

It seems ATT&T is the way to go, but I'm trying to find out how to get a local phone number with the 340 area code. I don't want to get coverage for my New Mexico phone number. When you get a ATT&T card, does a new number come with it?

When you apply for a plan or pay as you go, you'll get an ATT sim card with a local number (or any number). You can use that card in any compatible phone. You might be able to do it at your local ATT.

you read my mind, I just got back from the local ATT&T, the answer is NO, I'll have to wait till I land on STT, do you know if there is a store at the airport?

There isn't a store at our tiny airports. Depending on when you land, you can go directly to ATT.

Take a book to read if you go to AT&T.
They're always busy.
They're located at Crown Bay Marina, not far from airport.
You can try Radio Shack in Havensight at Buccaneer Mall.
I see phone cards for sale all over but no idea if they're for unlocked phones.

Thanks for the useful information, I was hoping to have a phone with the (340) area code before I landed, I don't think that is going to happen.

If I go to ATT today or tomorrow, I'll ask if you can get one without being here.

Did you check here? Whenever I've added a new device from Sprint, they ask me which are code do I want to use. I told ATT I wanted local number so issue of area code availability didn't come up.

ms411;

That would be awesome, but only IF you are going there, from what I'm reading, ATT&T is a long wait.

I have to check the phone again this morning and if I can't get on internet will be going there. I've never had to wait long if I go during the week.

You'll probably be in and out in half an hour.

Don't know if this information is to late for you or not but I am from Georgia and last year I purchased a AT&T go phone from my local ATT store here in Georgia. They were able to give me a Virgin Island phone number ( area code 340) with no problems. It was very simple and took hardly no time. I brought it with me when I came down there on vacation. I still keep it going from time to time. I will be coming back down there in May and will be bringing it with me again. So if your local store tells you that they can't do it that is not true.
And to add, I am in a very rural area and my local ATT store has to sometimes call people to help answer questions. So if this store here can figure out how to do it then any store should be able to figure it out. My store here is an official ATT store. Not a private store authorized to sell ATT products. That may make a difference.
