I had something similar to AAA roadside assistance in the states and it paid for itself the first time I used it. Is there something similar to this in the VI?

Try VIAC

http://www.viautoclub.com/

$150 per year for the first car, $100 for each additional car.

I have not used them personally.

VIAC is very similar to AAA...well worth it for those that are not mechanically inclined...

Good info here. In lieu of this, it reminded me to cancel my AAA services. Thanks! I'll have to check out VIAC when I get down there.

I just keep a couple of towing companies phone numbers in my wallet. A tow or roadside service is about $75 and up.
