My boyfriend and I are close to your age and moved to STX with the same amount of money you are and it disappeared fast! the best suggestion I can make is to check out the prices of cars here on the Islands.
A 1996 runs the same price a 2006 would in the States.
Plus a lot of "beater island cars" break down all the time! Maybe look into financing a new car by putting a down payment on a reliable car (trust me go carless on the island and youd rather be homeless)

As for anything else I can't give advice I live in STX. Good luck

Thanks! So did you both get cars or do you share one?

I wouldn't buy a new car on STT if I had a money tree in the back yard.myour vehicle will get dinged. Period. It will happen. There are plenty of good used vehicles here that are reliable and safe and do not burden you with a car note and having to purchase full coverage insurance. You just have to be patient sometimes to find car.
