Neil, I agree with you whole heartedly. His posts are offensive to me. But to even say this contributes to the vitriolic message and pushes the post to the top. Which, I notice, he does anyway when no one replies for a while....

Dear visitors/residents: a great church to attend on St. Croix is Lord God of Sabaoth in downtown Christiansted. It gives a nice pep and soul to the stoic Lutheran midwestern services I was used to. Plus it has a lot of historic items inside. I love the old photo of the pastor in a pith helmet!

This comment illustrates why atheism is growing and xity is dying.

Dear visitors/residents: a great curch to attend on St. Croix is... Happy hour at Cheseburgers! You are bound for a moving experiance of fellowship after pastor Zuka fills your good to go cup with the spirit of the rum! 😎

I've joined the congregation there a few times myself. 😎

Yes - and much cheaper than hanging with the pasta-farians at tutu bene!

Love it! This one deserves my favorite signature.

Why is it necessary to lie? Where did I post to drive this thread to the top when no one replied? Please support this claim with an example.

And I guess in your opinion atheists should not be offended when you come on to a thread asking about atheism and start posting church related matters. How arrogant can you get?

Rotorhead, you are defending a comment made to chanelcinq.

Perhaps rotorhead and chanelcinq = the same person ??

The comment is addressed to a male "His posts". To me someone with the screen name Chanel #5 is most likely a female. So I assumed that the comment was directed at me. Only mminstx can tell us for sure who her comment was directed at.

But then maybe Neil and mminstx are the same person???

“Atheism is more than just the knowledge that gods do not exist, and that religion is either a mistake or a fraud. Atheism is an attitude, a frame of mind that looks at the world objectively, fearlessly, always trying to understand all things as a part of nature.”

That's interesting, rotorhead, I always thought "not caring" was agnostic. What is agnostic then?

(I have no opinion on this thread, just find the information interesting.) 🙂

I would say that an agnostic is more "Don't know" rather than "Don't care". An agnostic would say that the answer to the question of whether god exists or not is unknowable because there is insufficient evidence to make a determination.

For many years I considered myself an agnostic/atheist. Now I consider myself an atheist/agnostic. What is the difference? I simply applied Occam's Razor.

If a god created the universe, then who/what created god? If you answer this by saying that god has always existed then why not apply Occam's Razor and say that the universe has always existed? God is not necessary to explain creation and simply adds one more layer of complexity.

I also find this an interesting topic of discussion.

I would just like to say that I have read this entire thread, and I WHOLEHEARTEDLY support Chanelcinq and Rotorhead. They are making very valid points, complete with examples to support what they say. Some of the other posters, meanwhile, are grasping at straws.

It's simple: being an atheist is just as legitimate a stance as an agnostic or a believer. People need to stop treating atheists as if they're freaks. The atheists have this little thing called SCIENCE on their side. Kinda tough to ignore that.

So you're a proud Christian/Muslim/etc, eh? Cool! Good for you! 🙂 But, please don't think for a second that you are superior to non-believers, and please don't force your worldview on them, either.

Fact is, this thread is no different than a great many other threads on this board that have NOTHING to do with the USVI.

Thanks for the support.
It is always comforting to know that like minded people are around.

Unfortunately, those same types of people will never admit that they've lost.

Atheist billboard hits snag in Hasidic neighborhood

..."It has been very disconcerting to see that the traditional victims of religious bigotry have become the purveyors of religious bigotry"...

Atheists are censored often in this country.

Apparently the school newspaper had published religious stories in the past but refused to publish this story. The story was picked up and published by the Knoxville paper.

LENOIR CITY — Krystal Myers is an honors student, captain of the swim team and editor of her high school newspaper.

She's also an atheist in a predominantly Christian student body.

In a recent editorial that Myers, 18, intended for the Lenoir City High School newspaper entitled "No Rights: The Life of an Atheist," she questioned her treatment by the majority.

"Why does atheism have such a bad reputation? Why do we not have the same rights as Christians?" she wrote.

http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/feb/23/lenoir-city-high-school-wont-publish-atheist-on/

Her article is here:

A lawsuit for sure.
