Hey all, We will be relocating in Aug, as I have posted before. Angela wants to eventually bring her cats and one of traval parteners has a travel worthy pup. What is the likelyhood of finding a rental that will allow animals. ALSO..... Is there a difference in cost in renting if you are year round? All I have seen lately are places that advertise sun season lofting only. I think the prices are high.....Just need a wee' bit of insight. Is there a difference in local vs' Temp. cost of living?

Hi Mountainmamas
Congrat's on your move. From our experience on STJ it is very difficult to rent if you have pets. We are in the process of moving to live in our house that we have there and currently have a couple renting that have 2 cats and a dog. We let them know we would be moving to live there full time back in February and they just found a home (5 months later) that would allow them to have their cats and a dog, and that is through a very good friend that they have who is returning to the states - they were even thinking they would have to send their dog back to the states - I'm not saying it is impossible but it is difficult with pets. Good luck

jasmine:
if you guys are planning on camping for a while i don't think you can have animals on the camp grounds. st. john is mostly national seashore and they don't allow animals, we have to take our dogs to smaller beaches.

Hello Jasmine,

The places you are looking at are likely vacation villas/condos; that cater to visitors for week, two week stays at a time.

Residents rent apartments/condos intended for long term stays and many require 6 month to 1 year leases. It is possiable when renting directly from an owner that if you were only staying 3 months for example and they didn't really want to rent to you that you could offer to pay a little more to get them to rent to you for the shorter lease period and likewise if you were willing to sign a lease for a longer period perhaps get a little break on the rent.

Yes there is a difference in prices of rentals for vacationers (usually by the week) and rentals for residents (usually by the month).
