Another question about a car....

I have just purchased a property in downtown Christiansted that will require a fair bit of renovation. I plan on coming down in a few weeks to get started but i cant figure out this car dilemma. I will need to purchase large items for the house, therefore a vehicle will be required. I guess i would qualify as a "snowbird" because I plan on staying a month at a time, 2-3 times a year. The property has only street parking. I don't object to buying a vehicle, but I am uncertain that it will be safe parked on the street, unused, for months at a time. Anyone know what others have done in similar situations? Is there a place I can store a car? I am open to creative solutions as well.

Thank You,
Jeff

You can rent a storage locker that will accept an auto - I would certainly not leave it parked on a street for any long periods.

Sun Self Storage takes cars. Definitely would not leave it on the street when you are off island.

I too live in downtown Christiansted.
I leave my truck at a friends house out east when I go off island.
Would not leave it parked on the street!

Maybe renting a car would be cheaper if you are only going to be here 3 months a year.

I used to store my Jeep at Seven Flags storage out east when I was off island. It was definitely better than leaving it on a street. I opted for parking it in the secure field as opposed to renting a storage unit. No problems whatsoever the three years I did that.

I left one of my vehicles parked behind my business in a highly visible location for a few months...side mirror was stolen and brake light lens broken. Leave your vehicle in a storage compound.

Oh you poor man. I hope you're bringing suitcases full of cash.

As for cars, I live in C'sted and park on the street. I would not leave a car unattended on the street when you are off-island for longer than a week because it will likely be broken into and/or stolen. Eventually, it'll end up torched in a field somewhere after being used for a jewelry store heist.

I leave mine with a friend who has available off-street parking or with Sun Self-Storage, whom I can highly recommend. Sun's car spots book up though, and they weren't as inexpensive as I thought they'd be.
