My husband and I are looking at the relocation idea. Currently I work for an airline, and have for the past 18+ years. Unfortunately, its not an airline that has service to STT so a transfer isn't possible. I have applied on line with a few others tho. Just wondering if anyone on this board might be an OAL employee.
Thanks for all the good info we've gotten from all of you so far!

OAL???

I'm an A&P technician for a midwest regional that flies for United Express. I'm hoping that will be my ticket to move down in a few years. 🙂

I work for American Eagle, we have a hub in San Juan from which we service most of the Caribbean. Not sure what you do for your airline, but we have outstations in St. Thomas and St. Croix which may be a possibility, I know we're always looking for people.

Mark,
I am customer service rep - ticket counter, gates, and baggage service primarily. I have also worked the ramp in the past -even trained de-icing -guess I won't need that skill 😉 down there. I have applied on line with American Eagle - we hope to make a trip down in person in about a month to seek employment more seriously. Any suggestions from you would be greatly appreciated.
I've worked customer service for America West Airlines for 6 1/2 years, and currently on my 10th year with Midwest Airlines.

Travelwoman, as an airline employee go here, click Caribbean, and scroll down to the bottom. After April 15 you can hop down to STT for $389 which includes stby airfare and 4 days/3 nights. Great little company that offers vacation specials just for airline employees. I used them once and everything was perfect. 🙂

Thanks Jay. I will compare that with ID90's and see....got a couple other ideas too on how to pass ride down on standby. Mostly, I'm wondering how/when to secure a job there with an airline.
Anyone have friends in STT that are with airlines??

I have been down in STT since mid December...There are alot of little obscure flying jobs down here....as far as ramp/ticket counter work....It's mainly Delta U.S. scAIR and United. There are also about 5 or six local airline counters in the terminal who operate small twin engine piston a/c. If one of the majors does not pan out I'd check into them. (Air St.Thomas, Cape Air etc.)

You may want to check out Sea born Express...thet operate out of St. Croix. Also have a "terminal" down on the water front near where the ferries depart from....They are probly the best "small" operator down there.

When you do go down to STT you first stop should be the Beachcomber after 4pm happy hour. You would be surprised howmany people from the port get into that little bar during the day...this is where I met most of my contacts.....I know the lady who runs the F.B.O. hangs out there as well as the Homeland security guy (Head of TSA)..Helicopter pilots...the list goess on...check it out...ask Rick the manager there who is always sitting around trying to look busy...he is a great help for interducing you to people...

I almost forgot.....they have a mean Bannana Strawberry frozen drink...I'd have sever

travelwoman,
If you don't mind living in San Juan for a little while, I would suggest applying for any job i.e. gate, ramp, ops, etc. in San Juan since it is the hub(more positions) and from there you can transfer to the outstation of your choice when the opportunity arrises. Also, the branch of American Eagle that flies in the Carribean is called Executive Airlines, but they are part of Eagle and hence a part of the AMR machine, which would allow for transfers anywhere in the states should it not work out in the islands. Also they are in the process of hiring crew schedulers and dispatchers in San Juan, as they just moved that part of the operation to San Juan from Dallas and apparently most of the current people have opted to stay in Dallas, dunno what they're thinking... That might be a possibility also... Drop me an e-mail if I can be of any assistance at all.
,Mark
