I am considering a move to St. Thomas in a couple of months. I have job offer with good pay and am seriously considering the move. What is life on the island like for our age group? How many people between 21-30 are there on the island and is there a good group of people that hang out/go out together? Thanks.

i will be there! and it seems like there are a ton of ppl on this board our age, too. I am 21, got a job offer as well, doing youth ministry. a lot of people on this board have said that everyone kinda hangs out together as opposed to by age...which is cool, but i think for me it will be hard to get used to. at college, you really get used to only seeing a 4 year-age range of people. i cant wait for the change...

Meg,

Thanks for the response. I am just graduating and too have been spoiled by the college environment as far as meeting people goes. It will definately be a change.

When are you moving down?

Ill be down March 7th...so about ten months from now! seems far off, but i know it will fly by as I get stuff ready to go. What is the job you will be doing?

College definitely does spoil you socially...everyone's goal for the first year is to meet friends...and then you are in a closed environment together, so all the friendships thrive. I guess its just more of an effort after school, but I am sure its not impossible.

Meg:

how did you find your job at the youth ministry? I am moving down at the end of May, just graduated from college in DC. Probably will be looking for a waiting/bartending job but i'd love to find a place that i could volunteer at or something of the sort.

i did an internship with young life here in the states, and my boss from here got transferred down there...offerend me the job...went through the interview process. now i am in the fundraising process, its 100% personally fundraised. Its a great organization, and we need volunteer leaders. nothing is really in place yet because its not through a church (its for the kids who dont really go to church, like an outreach). we will be starting training leaders probably this fall or next spring... email me at [email protected] and i can get you in touch with the head guy. its so much fun! check out the wesbite at www.younglife.org

thanks! and good luck with your move... 🙂

I too am a 20 year old moving down to St. thomas (I think St thomas, or else St John....depends on job) I will be there I think on May 11th in the east end. Wondering who else will be there then and might want to plan to meet up as fellow "2o-somethings" Getting nervous but also so excited.....also wondering if anyone knows if sheets and such will be needed for housing?
