Hello all,

I am a soon to be stt resident (may 12th). I've never been to any of the VI's befor and am making this move blindly so I was hoping some one could help me out with a few questions. First off I know that it's the wrong time to move there tourism wise, but it's just the way my situation worked out. I've been cooking in the boston area for about 8 years now and have much experience. Will I have much difficulty finding a job durn low season? I know up here a quality chef if always in demand. The other big question I have is cell phone service. I was told my verizon phone would not work down there, and that cingular was the way to go in most the islands, is this true? And one more, how many gyms are there in stt? I was told there was a gold's gym downtown but wasn't able to find any others on the web. Is that all there is? Any help that can be offered would be great. Thanks

There's a real long thread re: cell service on the "vacation" board. Just about anything you ever wanted to know.

There's a gym in Nisky Center. Don't remember the name of it.

Hello Sam,

You should still find work. Might take a little longer then if it was season. There was an assistant director of food/beverage job posted on Ritz Carlton Resort's web site that perhaps you'd be itnerested in looking at. They often have other food related work posted: https://www.ritzcarlton.com/corporate/employment/search.asp?postype=-1&dept=-1&posName=-1&rg=11&sreg=38&location=-1&Search.x=53&Search.y=7

Sprint or Cingular would work, they are local providers. Verizon is not a local provider, however most folks that have vacationed here and brought their Verizon phones report getting service (some with roaming, some without). I believe you can break your Verizon contract, without the fee, by proving you are moving somewhere they don't offer service. Call them and get details.

There are 6 or 7 gyms. America's Paradise Gym is the one in Nisky Center.
