I know they don't have the 3G network out there, but was wondering if you do have one, how you like it?

I tried to get one at the AT&T store at sunny Isle. They told me I would have to order it on line.

From an inside source at AT&T in Puerto Rico I was told they will be upgrading the network to 3G in the USVI in 2008.

AT& T network in San Juan is already 3G i know the USVI 3g network will be running at the end year for sure. In my case i already have the old Iphone i had previous account with AT&T in Miami so what i did when i arrive in STT i went to the office and i transfer my account to the USVI and they gave me a ( 340 ) area code. I am going to Miami next week i am buying it again i still keep a 305 cell for emergency so you go to the apple store get the new 3g activated with the cheapest plan as soon as you get to STT go to the crown bay office and transfer it to a 340 area code it takes minutes like i did with the old iphone. Now i have been told that Boolchands is going to also sell 3g phone in STT. You could activate the 3g phone and it work fine if there is no 3g it will simply work like the other one no problem.

I have one of the 1st generation models and it worked very well last week in STX. Overall, I've had mine for almost a year now and I love it. I know several others who also have the phone and they all like it as well. The 3g model is very similar except of course for the improved performance when a 3g network is available.

Not on St Croix, but the ATT store on St Thomas steers you away from the i-phone because there is no local tech support. I bought an ATT tilt with 3G (that only works in the states, so far.) When I had a problem, they fixed it at Crown Bay in 2 seconds flat.

I called the Sunny Isle AT&T store last week and was told that the new iPhone wasn't available there and that I would have to purchase it in the states. So, last Saturday morning, I woke up at 5 AM and spent 2 hours in line waiting for the Apple store to open. By the time the store opened, the line was around the block. They get phones in every day, but sell out instantly. I was told by the store manager that they are expecting this type of frenzy to go on through September.

Didn't have much choice. I had to get a carrier since Verizon isn't an option in STX. Now, the 3G coverage is currently available to only about 10% of the US, mostly some major metropolitan cities. Whenever the phone is out of the 3G area, it reverts down to the slower Edge network which is about 1/2 the speed.

The phone is simply incredible. Every day I am discovering a different neat feature. Well worth the hassle of getting it. 🙂
