I'm looking to split the cost of shipping a 20 or 40 ft container to STX. I only need 10ft primarily for furniture.

Timeframe: mid-late April.

Shipping cost: $5,450 total ($2,725 to share) for a 20' container (Blue Ocean quote)

(Alt if someone already has a container booked going down with extra room to let and you are in the NE corridor between DC and NY).

Private message me if interested

That quote seems high? Did you get a quote from Crowley by any chance?

The Blue Ocean quote is for shipping from my house in Philadelphia (2hrs load time included) to STX port.

Crowley does not offer "ship from home" nor can I go to their warehouse in Pennsauken, NJ to load my own 20" container. They do offer freight forward services like VI Cargo and others, but I won't have my own container.

If I obtain, load, and deliver to them my own 20' container the cost of ocean shipping from Pensauken, NJ to STX ($5,300), or from Ft. Lauderdale to STX ($4,400).

So Blue Ocean with door to port service is the cheaper option.

A friend on island used Blue Ocean to ship from his house in NJ to STX last year and paid north of $5,000).

A little too early for us - just bought our lot in January and have a lot to think about prior to construction: We live in the Allentown, PA area so would like to stay in touch - are you building or buying something existing?
