I know one was recently started but it seems to have gotten a bit negative.

I moved down to St. John about 2 weeks ago and I can't say enough good things about the people I've met here. This includes service people and neighbors. In particular:

- My packages were all waiting for me at the Mail Center when I arrived.
- I had a terrific car buying experience at Paris Car Rental.
- WAPA had my power turned on within 2 hours of signing my lease (at 4:00 on a Friday no less!!!)
- Though my paperwork got "lost" at Innovative, the technician who came out to set up my DSL was phenomenal. He made a few calls and got me up and running much sooner than we thought possible. He came on a Friday and initially told us it would be Tuesday before I got service, but by 3:30 I was connected!
- a 20 minute wait at the DMV.

Maybe I was a little apprehensive about all of this because I have been reading this forum for the past year, but so far things have been pretty painless. I even got my whole apartment furnished (yes I decided to rent an unfurnished apt, eek) within a week. I know I haven't been here long enough to make any judgements about life here in general, but my move was so much easier than I expected it to be.

So, a great big THANKS! to everyone I've had the pleasure of meeting on STJ!

I appreciate all the people who continually post here with humor and heart, but without anger and snarkiness. 😉

LItoVI - Welcome to the VI, and I'm glad your initial experiences have been positive. You'll find a good bunch of folks down here for the most part, and the occasional pirate.

mgpilot - Thanks for using the word snarkiness. I nearly snorted my coffee. 😎

Snarky: A witty mannerism, personality, or behavior that is a combination of sarcasm and cynicism. Usually accepted as a complimentary term. Snark is sometimes mistaken for a snotty or arrogant attitude.

LltoVI: Welcome! Once upon a time we had an easy move too.
I find most of the people and processes around here to be rather painless, especially if I'm not in a hurry.

Islandhops: What dictionary you using?
Snarky isn't wit.

Snarky:
1. Rudely sarcastic or disrespectful; snide.
2. Irritable or short-tempered; irascible.

Glad to hear it, getting things done here has gotten much easier in the last 5 years, I am certain of that. It's easy to point out all the negatives but I have to say that I am often pleasantly surprised by how efficient I can get something done here. This wasn't always the case though.

I bought a 2011 Ford Explorer from Metro Motor's last Friday and the process was as smooth as could be. The salesguy Willis Hodge was very good and I got a very good price on the vehicle. I basically told him how I buy vehicles here: I shop the internet in Miami for a price, add on 4.5% for Gross Receipts to be fair to the local dealer, throw in the cost of road tax and shipping ($2800 for the vehicle I purchased) and then throw in a little extra for the convenience of buying it local. He came back with a price lower than what all but one dealer in Miami wanted for the vehicle right here on island! Very, very surprised and I drove off in the new vehicle the next day!

I may even have a shout out to Wapa if they come thorugh on a pole repair this weekend like they've promised (will report back)!

Sean
