Are the mosquitoes worse in Stx than in Stt?

This is actually a semi-serious question! We visited Stx in 2006 and will return on this coming Sunday (July 13). The only negative we found was the prolific presence of misquitoes and "no seeums", which required the regular application of "OFF" to keep them away. On our visits to Stt, admittedly years ago, we never had a mosquito or no seeum problem. Is there really a difference between the islands, or just my bad luck?

I would guess it was more a matter of the weather during each visit. The dryier and less humid, the fewer bugs. Or maybe just have bigger, badder bugs on STX!!!

It also depends a little on where you are on each island. Some areas are worse than others.

I think in STT and STX is about the same just buy allot repellent and in your house and terrace put either Citronela candels or put a UV light lamp or tiki tourches at night that will do the job. In my case i have one of those lamps in the terrace i try to keep doors and windows closed as much as i can't. I go to home Depot and i buy a repellent Cutter Sport is good even under water also you could use bullfrog products i use a sunblock with repellent is all water proof. Either way is not that bad yet wait until August and September?????????????????

My Opinion and experience is STX has more "bites for the buck" tanks to Trade. However we don't have any snakes on STX, because our mongoose are tougher. LOL

There is no difference between the islands. What will help make a difference is shutting your doors and windows before dusk. Making sure there are no holes in your window screens. Keeping the grass cut short. Obviously no standing water.

Some people just frankly get bit worse then others. I rarely get bit and my husband is the opposite. I suggest while you acculmate you always keep some off with you especially when you go out to dinner. Its always worse at sunset.

When did you go to stt? When the trade winds die the mosquitoes are worse for everyone. In July we should still have the winds. If you're going to be in a breezy spot the chances are better that you won't get bit. For example Cheeseburgers is always bad but there is never much of a breeze there.

Its seems to be all about the wind. Ive been eaten alive at Magens and Bolongo late afternoon/evening when there is no wind, but when a good breeze is there, not touched...

Anyone know about the Neep tree? I visited friends earlier today with Neep trees in their yard, and they swear they don't have mosquitoes because of them. News to me!

They seem to multiply easily. My neighbor's always getting rid of seedlings. Lots of the guys by the side of the road sell them, I think, and they should be cheap. Pruned they make a nice tree---flower has a pleasant scent

well, we are now into our 5th day on stx and so far -- no mosquitoes, none, at all! We're staying at the Buccaneer (fabulous as before) and haven't had to use the first shot of "Off". We had the great pleasure of having dinner with Ric and Linda--great folks! Thanks for a fun informative evening.

More later.

Steve
