The VI Carry permit requires a "Business Reason" for needing a handgun.

"A citizen may not be required to offer a 'good and substantial reason' why he should be permitted to exercise his rights," US District Judge Legg wrote. "The right's existence is all the reason he needs."

true, i guess they don't think any one else would ever be in danger. i think it should be changed so that anyone who can legally own a gun can have a carry permit.

If you feel you need to carry a gun by all means do so. We carry in Texas and also in Alaska and i will carry one on the islands. Even though they are probably illegal you need to conceal your weapon if no one can see it they don't know you have one. Never pull it unless you are going to pull the trigger.I have a concealed hand gun licence from Texas and is good for most of the states not sure about USVI will have to check. This may sound blood thirsty but the bad guys don't care.

The U.S. Virgin Islands does not honor any other states Permit/Licenses. They do have reciprocity in their law but from all I can learn from people in the VI’s is they will not honor any ones permit/license. They will honor the right to carry to those who have the proper Documentation to Carry under LEOSA.

That's my understanding as well. You have to jump through hoops to carry in the USVI (particularly if you don't have a business reason for a gun) and then you have to risk the higher chance of someone breaking into your house AFTER the gun is properly registered...

It's not impossible to get a permit but you can see impossible from there. It's such a hassle I decided to leave my gun collection at the range and only visit them for target shooting.

Apparently not at this time. Interesting because there always was an outside range and then probably 10+ years ago an indoor range opened up with quite a bit of fanfair and publicity but that seems to have fizzled pretty quickly.

Here's a link to the VIPD website which may be of interest to those who've asked questions about gun pemits:

There is a range on STT, I wish I could tell you where it is but I don't know. I have several friends that go there frequently.

The police range was out at a point in STT, at the end of the dump, at least in the late 1980s.
