HI,
I am planing to relocate to STT in January. I am an artist and I want to see your response on whether you think I will survive there on my art? I was offered to teach on class at UVI but that will not suffice. I would like to teach private art classes(maybe at Mango Tango) but would there be sufficient interest?
Please advise.
Katalin

Hello Katalin,

Not sure if you saw my prior response to your inquiry on this but here it is:

You can make it work, but may find it necessary to do different things; teach the one class at UVI, have a few private students, sell art work, participate in arts & crafts shows like the ones Tillett Gardens hosts two or three times a year http://tillettgardens.com/, join artists organizations like http://www.stjohnarts.org/ and participate in their projects. There are some artists that teach art at resorts, for example http://www.artbylucinda.com/class/. A couple of the summer camps offer various arts; the one that comes to mind is Hintz Academy of Music - they also offer regular classes during the year but in terms of the summer program Ms. Hintz works with other artists to offer the children dance, art, music - (340)774-1905. The St. John School of Arts is another place you could contact (340)779-4322. Hope the additional contacts help get you more options.

Dear Islander,
Thank you so much for all your very good advise. I will contact the places at once.
I contacted Lucinda who teaches at Ritz, but didn't find out how she got to do it.
She said Marriott has an artist too, but they didn'tell me that when I called them, but also cant's get a proper response from them either.Should have gone there in person and skip a lunch instead.
i know there are some artists who get together to draw.
I talked to Mango Tango and she offered her gallery space to me to teach from there. But I dodn't know how many people would be interested. I will aproach galleries avcause to sell my work.It just... you know... Guess I will just have to advertise on my own and make it happen somehow.
