car/safary taxi

Hi All,
This past August when I was visiting STT somebody lent us his car to go to town. The car stopped in the middle of the hill(forgot the name.) It was horrible.Had to roll down backwards. Very scary.
I was amazed that the Safary taxi ran only one direction.(or was I mistaken?) If I wanted to go to Safire beach wich was very near Red Hook where I was staying in one of the marinas, near Buddha Bar, I had to take the taxi to Tutu Mall and take another taxi backwards to "Country", which took me to Safire, or Red Hook.Crazy.
I was low on cash, so Safary was my only way of comute.Unfortunately it doesn't run everywhere. It didn't go to Ritz, or Marriott, where I would have liked to go to visit, since I plan to teach art there. I figured, let me contact the people first, as I do at home in NY when looking for a job. I call, I send emails, I fax my resume, my proposal and then I make an appointment. Right? Yeah, sure. Not in STT. Impossible to get hold of those people, or talk to somebody in charge or get them answer you, or give you some definite answers. Same with everybody else I approached while there, with no exeption of schools.
So, anyway, I guess, the thing in STT is to "show my face" so to speak and keep showing it, or nothing will happen. I guess?
For this I will need a car.Moving possibly in January.
Now long story short, I am an artist and as such large purchases may be prohibitive to me.
Now, I would be happy to trade art work for a car, I can paint a portrait, a mural in anybodies house or business,(of anything your heart desires) or give art (drawing , painting) lessons to kids or adults in exchange for a good, reliable car in good running condition.
Is this possible, or am I dreaming?

Here, anything is possible. But, you are not going to be able to do this long distance. You have to be On-island. Sound Familiar?

I know people get tired of hearing us say that, but it's really true.

Good luck.

Good luck. You're better off renting a car by the month. They can be had for around $500. As far as the job. So many emails and faxes come in all the time so it is always best to be here face to face. Good luck.

Thank you Linda and Ronnie for your responses. It's scary to know that I have to actually be in the deep waters to be able to swim. Perhaps.
