I am trying to find out the numbers for local auto insurance carriers. I need to insure my vehicle prior to shipment so any help in both contact information and also the best providers would be greatly appreciated. Maybe also some words of encouragement, I am both excited and nervous, coming down June 2.

What island?

I've used First Insurance for the past couple of years. I haven't had a claim so I don't know how good they are at paying off. I'm on St. Thomas but they're also on St. Croix.

St. Thomas is 340-714-1988
St. Croix is 340-713-1101

Good luck! Others who have had claims against their insurance might be better able to let you know how well their agencies paid off.

We are using Annaly Insurance Company. They are in Gallows bay, STX.

My husband just (this week) signed up with First Insurance on STT. He was impressed that the prices were actually cheaper compared to what we have stateside. He said they were really friendly and easy to work with, too. Of course, we haven't had a claim, so I'm not sure how friendly they are in that situation.

First Insurance's auto insurance is underwritten by Gaurdian. I have never heard of anyone having a good claim experience with them.

On the other hand Gaurdian home insurance is supposed to be fine as the have reinsurred all their coverage so your lost costs them nothing directly so they are willing to settle.

Thanks everyone. Just faxed over some information to First Insurance, I will look for the best carrier once I'm in STT but this policy will facilitate the move. Thank you for your comments on this and every post, this is an invaluable resource for me.
