New to the Island and staying for 3 months before deciding to move permanently. Wondering if people auto share here? We have checked into renting an auto for 3 months which is crazy expensive, yet do not need nor want the hassle of buying something yet) We are a middle age couple, both with excellent driving records and fully insured, wishing to share dependable vehicle while on St Thomas. Feedback appreciated!

globe: Here the insurance goes with the car, not the person. Interestingly, tickets go with the car and not the person, too. So if I loan my car to you and you get a ticket, I get stuck with the fine. I don't loan out my car except to very good friends.;)

I think your best bet is to buy a decent used car, and then sell it 3 months later. Do both transactions as a private sale (no dealer). The net cost to you should be hundreds of dollars, vs. thousands of dollars for a rental. It's more work for you, but much cheaper, so you'll effectively be "paid" for your effort.

We are coming down March/April for a month or more before the actual move in fall, we would entertain the idea you propose.. We're early 60's, both professional adults, I currently own my own GC business of 25+ yrs. in Phoenix , wife is retiring from electronic manf. co. in 2 months. let's talk...
