Ok, this may be off-topic and kind of silly but here goes...

Sat. is date night for me and hubby and the move theater has so many great movies I am overwhelmed!

Given the rarity of adult-time, I want to make sure we make good use of it.

So, should we see Babel or Blood Diamond?

TIA!

Oh, btw, please don't recommend the Humane Society ball. We don't want to dress up. 🙂

OK, not to be impatient, but has noone seen either of these movies?

Opinions...good/bad/indifferent?

Should we bag them both and see Dreamgirls?

I Need FEEDBACK!

Sorry, but my movie-reviewer (aka Mom) is in Berlin and I usually can't make a move without her.

HELP!!!

We saw both, Blood Diamond was very very good. Both Leo and the black guy ( can't remember his name) were outstanding. It is bloody and viloent. Shows man's inhumanity to man.
Babel was IMHO not very good. It will proably win the Academy Award, as they like this type of movie. It "loosely ties together four stories" Boring Boring Boring.

Thank you thank you thank you Terry.

I actually found a link where someone else asked this exact same question. Blood Diamond was the consensus on a recommendation.

BTW, I had no idea that Babel was supposed to be like Amores Perros and Crash. Violence isn't usualy my thing but I do like Djimon Honsou (the black main actor who was also in Amistad). Not so sure about Leo Di Caprio...I still think of him as a teenager. 😉

Djimon did a surperb job. Even better than in Amistad, I think. I hope he beats out Leo for best supporting actor. Leo is up for that in The Departed, another great movie.

In both of those movies, Leo has IMHO outgrown his teenager image.

By the way, not that it makes a big difference since it's still personal opion, but my wife and I see "a lot" of movies. Last year - 56, in 2005, 62. So we have a lot to compare them with.

Onika: Blood Diamond is my pick. Great movie. But only if you have not seen Dreamgirls. That is the one to see. Donna

Terry--Given how many movies you clocked last year, I may have to use you as my new movie-reviewer!

Glynnswife--I don't know if I can sit through Dreamgirls. I REALLY don't like Beyonce. 🙁

That would be ok, But again it's personal opion. I like most men LOVE Beonce, but I thought the girl from American Idol, Jennifer Hudson, stole the show. But two completely different types of movies.

I always thought I won the most movies seen award but if you hate Beyonce it won't matter. This movie is so good. For the first half of the movie it is hard to tell it is Beyonce.

What did you end up seeing?

We saw Blood Diamond. It was good but thoroughly depressing and incredibly violent.
Leo has TOTALLY outgrown his teenage years. Djimon was superb in the role of Mr. Vandy.

Island Paul--I think Babel will be a DVD rental. Hoping all is well with you and the adorable pooch.

Glynnswife-- I fear I shall have to bite the bullet and rent Dreamgirls when it comes out. Everyone says it is phenomenal and Beyonce is negligble.

As for movie watching--my mom has you both beat I am sure. She is a film addict. She is currently in Berlin at the Berlin Film festival. When some people retire they go to warm and sunny places...not Mom, she has been doing the Film Festival circuit. She's done Venice, Montreal and next year is Sundance. I think she averages a movie every 2-3 days.

My hats off to her. If only we had as much variety here - I might get up to two or three a week. I have Dreamgirls on DVD if you want to borrow it, Onika.
