Bank of STX. They are building a new branch in Peter's Rest to open the spring/summer.

I went with 1st Bank just because there's more options here and on other islands. The only thing I've found that's frustrating is the debit cards don't actually work as debit cards but only as credit...so pay attention. But 1st Bank was what was recommended to me when I first got here. I don't know about options in Peters Rest.
Cheers

I went to several banks that wanted proof of residence via mail delivered by USPS (which can take several weeks), Not being a resident at the time and even though I had a purchase agreement and a law office receiving my mail but no postmarked mail in hand I was denied. After returning to the Island it was suggested that I go to Community Bank. They ran a check of my license and identity history. This took a little time but when it was done it took no time to open an account.. If I had known about them earlier I would have saved a lot of time and money transferring funds.

We opened a account at 1st Bank the 2nd time we went down, while we were looking for a condo. We still have the account statements sent here to the states.

Does anyone know if the banks on STX are FDIC insured?

Thanks,
Doug

FirstBank is a member of FDIC. I'd bet all the banks are.
