Yes. There are 2 things that are cheap on the island. Alcohol and tobacco.

There's only one bar that brews their own beer that I know about, Brewpub on the boardwalk.

Beer is expensive on island, the selection is generally poor and only a small handful of places have it on tap.

I think you'll find the brew pub a good spot for beer, but as far as "what not" I think it's as scarce as hens teeth.

Most of the bars on STX haven't really embraced the trend toward craft beer seen on the mainland, hence, you will find most bars sell cheap crap mass produced beer thinking people will only pay $2 for a cold one.

There is an alternative thankfully and that's the Ale House in Gallows Bay behind Caribbean Printing. There you will find a treasure trove of great craft beers from Europe and several from American with new labels coming in every week.

Check them out...

As I understand it, brewing beer requires massive amounts of fresh water. Not that we have that in the VI. 😉

The water needs to be of consistent quality, plus you need a temperature controlled environment for brew consistency. There's a reason why so many "VI" beers are produced and bottled stateside.
