I thought St Thomas would be the best choice but some of these posts make me think perhaps its a too seedy . Being that i would be walking home from wrk with a pocket full of dough makes me a little leary of where to live now(which island and where) Any suggestions for this ol' juice slinger! LOts of luv

p.s. i heard in stt there is bar called igys ( good place to wrk?) and i heard in st john there's beachbar in wharfside village thats supposed to be lots of fun, any feedback?

Your bartending buddy

Truthfully, you shouldn't walk home with pockets full of money. You are asking to become a statistic. Jobs are always plentiful around here.

dev2006,

Many people who participate on this board live on St. Thomas. Saying that their hometown may be "too seedy" for you is offensive to them. Unfortunately for you, you've alienated the folks who are in the best position to help you.

thanks for the heads up, im new 2 this message board and apparently have forgotten my manners. i sincerely appologise to anyone i might have offended.my goal was to have someone tell me what areas in St Thomas (hotels, villas, cottages, studios) are safer than others so that i could stay to avoid getting into trouble.

Well can't help you on living situations but just spent some time on STT and many of that time at Iggys. Enjoyed it as a patron. I bartended for 10 years not sure how well the bartenders at Iggys faired out tip wise. My bartenders at Iggy's did not know what a Cubra Libra was but they were young. I had one day time BT that was fantastic!!! Just the best service I had my whole trip. I was trained old school bartending by some older BTs in the 80's and feel alot of the art has been lost on the younger generation bartending today. I miss some of the finesse and knowledge. I felt safe most of the time I was on the Island. Like any place you live there are some places you need to be more cautious then other.

I loved STT and cannot wait until my next trip and hope to move there in 2007/08.

http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/seedy

Seedy means, "Inferior in condition or quality, SHABBY, RUN-DOWN, somewhat disreputable, SQUALID."

LOL Someone else said STX was "somewhat dark". Is that better or worse than seedy?

Hi Linda J.

Yeah, maybe we need new license plates:

The USVI, our dark islands, our seedy home,

or

The USVI, America's dark and seedy Caribbean.

Hi Lala, thanks for the iggy's heads up. How can a bartender not know what a cuba libre' is regardless how young, geeez! I know how you feel bartending has been my passion for many yrs and still is ( the 80's rocked!), i feel like i got 5-10 more yrs in me but you never know. I dream of bartending while overlooking the exquisite views VI has to offer. I hope this 33yr old can make this dream happen & find his niche it what seems to be ( there god spots and bad i get that)a very desirable home ( VI) . I have a alot to offer VI and those who drink there in return. when i get my job i will post where i'm at for anybody thats skeptical. Then Lala you can your rum and coke & lime with a little vegas flair!
