My husband and I are going to be moving to STT in 10 months. We're still trying to figure out which area to move to. Is there a side of the island that seems to be less affected during hurricane season and receive less damage? Also, what kind of options will we have in protecting our sailboat in the future if a hurricane happens to come along in the direction of STT? Can't wait to get there. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks!

I currently live in Peterborg estate but areas like Mahogany road golf course which is consider in the Peterborg area as well as some areas in Skyline drive and Frencman bay estates are probably the best areas in STT.

Those are nice enough areas, but she was asking about hurricane protection. The answer to the question it no. However, if your home is built into the side of a hill, with less exposure, you will be better protected, but you won't have much view, probably little or no breeze during normal weather conditions and more mosquitoes. There's always a trade-off, huh?
Is your sailboat comfortable enough for live aboard cruising? A lot of people, who are in a position to do so, take off on their boat during hurricane season, and head down island, out of the hurricane belt. Others just take off during an actual possibility of a hit and go somewhere a little safer (a hurricane hole), Some idiots just ride it out in the main harbor. You can also haul out, but that's not the best option around STT. There are a couple of places over in the BVI, but they may already have waiting lists. Sounds like you will be arriving around Feb.,09. That will give you about 5 or 6 months before you have to do anything. Hang out with other boat owners, and get some ideas.

North, south, east & west all have good areas to live in. Remember, it's not only the hurricanes that do the damage. Tornadoes can be spun off of them. After Marilyn you could literally see where some went through. Most of the rebuilds of hurricane-damaged homes were made stronger with more stringent building codes, too.
