best cell service in STJ?

Good Day everyone!

I've looked through the message boards about cell phone service for STJ and the best choices seem to be cingular/ATT and Sprint. Can anyone tell me which, if any, works better in ST. John? And is it free to call to the mainland?

4 and a half more months to go and we're so excited! Can't wait to live in paradise again!

Thank you
Jen

Depends on where you will be. They both vary. I know Sprint works better over at the Westin and Cingular does not. Free long distance is up to your plan.

Jen & Jason:

Be careful on STJ. We have Cingular. While on STJ, in January, my cell picked up a BVI tower....the cost was $3.50/min. Also my phone was reprogrammed and continued to log onto the BVI tower even while on STT. The total cost.....over $50.

Jen and Jason-
I have sprint. I was doing my pre move visit on STJ 2 weeks ago and had relatively few problems picking up sprint in cruz bay. not always did the phone ring, sometimes it went straight to voicemail and I got the message later. I got it out at Trunk Bay, too. Now, anywhere else on island outside of town is another story. But it did just fine in cruz bay. Jodi

Jen & Jason- I'm moving the second week of September. The pre-move visit was so very helpfulin figuring out the smaller details of the move...like cell phone service. I believe that I'm going to switch my number to a virgin islands number before I actually go down there. When are you moving again? Do you know where you'll be living or working?
Talk to you soon,
Jodi

Hey Jodi!

We move October 13th! We got a studio to rent in Cruz Bay for a couple weeks while we try to find a place to live. My boyfriends a chef so he shouldnt have to much trouble finding a job. I, on the other hand, have always done whatever i can to make a living. Im planning on concentrating more on my art in STJ and hopefully get somewhere with that 🙂

Other than that we're pretty set to move...just need to figure out how to get our cars over there for less than 4 grand each and we'll be set!

How do you go about getting a VI cell number before you go there? Can you just call a store in the VI and they send it to you? I need a new cell so badly..mines from Hawaii and theres no point switching it to Cali, then switching to USVI within 4 months!
Thanks!
Talk to you soon

Jen

Jen,

My husband and I are moving to St. Thomas August 1. Last week Gene (husband) went to the Sprint store where we live now (Key West, FL) and got two phones and a plan with St. Thomas numbers so we will be set when we get there.
