Hi all again, well I have posted in the past under Island Explorer. It is time to make the big jump it took us almost a year to sell our home and save what money we have to relocate.

I am going to take a job with Diamonds International for sales, some of you on the board said it could be a stepping stone to get my feet wet until I find something else. I am also interested in selling time shares if any one know anything about this please advise, you can always email me. I hear that the high season starts in Oct, is this right and dose the prices for rent go up? If all goes well I am looking to come sometime in Sept, my wife is going to stay behind until her sister has her baby, then she will come down in a couple of months.

I will have about 8k to make the move and get started, I hope this will be enough money. I will need to find a place to stay looking for a one bedroom one bath on the north end, if anyone has anything coming up for rent please let me know. Also can I buy a car and finance it on the island by just getting there, I have good credit and I am going to sell our cars and and just by and island car or rent one for awhile.

Thanks for any and all the help you can give.

Bill

I assume you're going to stt from the job. Season doenst start til about mid to late December. Oct is still technically in Hurricane season, not as big a risk that month but it can definitely still happen. Sept thru Nov are quite often rainy months as well. Hurricanes and rainy weather make hotel rooms cheaper but usually not cheap enough to attack that many tourists. Maybe stt starts early then ours on stx but hadnt ever heard that.

Dec. 15 is the official start of the "season" but it starts cranking up in November. If you're renting on a yearly basis, the rent should be the same with a lease. Check the Classified section on this board for rentals under Forum List.

The newest time share is this one but it's certainly not the only one.

You might want to stay in Ronnie's place, Villa Fairview until you get your bearings & figure out what's what. You also wouldn't need a car to get to work if you'll be working downtown.

You have the two interests that are well-suited for employment on STT--jewelry sales and timeshares.
I couldn't tell from your post if you already have a job with DI? If so, they should tell you when they would like you to start. Otherwise, mid to late November is the best time to come to get the job.

Rent--even though your rent will not increase if you have signed a lease, availability is waning by the time December starts. If securing a plum apt. is the key, I would come in early Nov.

Car leases--when we moved here we were told we could not get a car note due to length of time on-island. This despite exc. credit and exc. professional jobs. We ended up getting a loan from Pentagon Fed. Credit Union. The rates are better anyway. you do not need to be a military service person or relative to join.

It sounds like you have some flexibility in terms of when you can arrive so I would shoot for October.

Good luck!
