I would love to join. I've heard that there already is a book club that meets at Frenchtown Deli - is this true?

Hey Shawn and Everyone Else -

When would be a good time and date to meet? Where should we meet? Frenchtown Deli?

What should be our first book?

Wondering what was up with the book club?

Donkey, what are your literary favorites? Sci-fi, the classics, Island bio's? I'm new to the island and will be traveling back and forth but would love to join a goodhearted group of people in STT to enjoy a most laid back subject as a good book. Maybe we can even discuss the beauty that surrounded us while reading.

I've been all about the classics lately - but my book tastes are all over the charts. We should start with a lighthearted fun book. A good intro book ? ideas?

If you're looking for a lighthearted read with a Caribbean flavor, may I recommend "Pirates of Pensacola" by Keith Thomson? Funniest novel I've ever read.

Thanks JohnB,

Just purchased a used copy on Amazon.com for 99cents. Shipping costs of course made my total to $4.99. I'm looking forward to a good read! Thanks for the suggestions.

Any other takers on our first book?

Sounds like a good recommendation for the first book.
I'm in, Amazon is sending me a copy as well. So where and when do you meet?

Hi everyone,

I kept looking for my post on the other board-yikes! Does everyone agree on "Pirates of Pensacola"? I really loved "Don't Stop the Carnival" but I'm open to anything. Has anyone been in a book club before? I have not, but I know they typically discuss certain themes for each book. I can check in with my friend to see what they do. Does anybody else have any input on that subject? It sounds like we are six. I know of another person from the board that may also join. If we all agree on the book, then I guess we should all order it. Is the Consensus "Pirates of Pensacola?" I suppose we need to give it a week to arrive and a few weeks to read it. I know where Frenchtown Deli is but is it quite enough to talk in a group? Would Hook Line and Sinker be quieter? I'm very excited!

I have an idea. I am sure we all have a certain genre of books we like to read. I typically read contemporary novels that have a sense of humor, take place in a foreign country or take a perceptive look at life. I have never read a Sci-Fi or mystery book. But, I know there are good books in every genre. We could explore a different genre every time.. What do you all think?

Thanks Shawn for your Idea of starting the book club. I hope that I didn't come across as overbearing, I was just excited that someone finally suggested a book, thanks JohnB.

I currently am reading Don't Stop the Carnival and would recommend it also. Don't mean to impose, but maybe if we all got together and discussed the great books that we have read, we could then choose a new release to read, and get the bonus of reviews from our resident group of what else to read.

Thanks All,

Molly

Sounds good to me! What is everyone's schedule like? I am flexible, but I am assuming most people work during the day so we would probably have to meet during the evening or on the weekend. We could meet at Toad and Tart, Kokopelli, Sop Choppy's, Hook Line and Sinker, Indigo, The Grill Room. Any other suggestions?

Molly, you didn't come off overbearing. I'm just glad people responded and are interested. Let's get this thing rolling! I can't wait to meet you all.

Hi Everyone,

I just recieved my copy of pirates of Pensacola from Amazon. Funny, but I think that someone sent me a stolen library book, I suppose in the spirit of pirating. Too funny. Maybe I'll try to locate it's true owner when I am finished. Does anyone know any libraries that go by the initials SLCLS?

Ok, so where did everyone go? Let's get this thing started. Can everyone find some time to meet this week to discuss possible books? Suzette is the only one who answered that she is also flexible schedule-wise. So could everyone meet Thursday at 2:00 at Kokopelli's next to Cost U Less?

Hi Shawn,

I am still going back and forth stateside and won't be back until next Monday. Any chance we can meet next week? If it's too much trouble, I can bow out of the first book club meeting. But I would love to meet with anyone over coffee or a drink to catch me up with the book club meeting.

Thanks,

Molly
