Ok. Sounds like I'll have to be open about adjusting my shopping habits. (online and otherwise!) hahaha I don't particularly like shopping where I live---traffic and hassle---so I do a lot of pointing an clicking. With the increased cost of goods and the lack of availability you guys are suggesting, this may help me greatly in terms of identifying wants vs needs. Still trying to see the silver lining! 🙂

I don't know whether or not you've already done so but if you use the search engine on this site, type in "special education" and change the default to "all dates" you'll find several threads on special needs children, special education and autism which will be of great help in investigating the available resources.

As far as shipping is concerned it was hard to get any store to ship here years ago when they didn't have a clue where the US Virgin islands were nor that we were a US territory. That's changed hugely over the years and I'd disagree with STXBob and say that most online stores DO ship here. 😀

Thanks! I will definitely check the search engine!

I think that the level of support for your son will probably be very limited on island - I am not sure how...the "brown face" question would go down in the public schools - we do have a fairly violent and armed faction in the schools and it could go so very wrong so very quickly.
If I were in your shoes, I would definitely not make the move - it is hard to enough to live in "paradise" without the added struggle (and joys) of a child with special needs.

Your PMV should be spent investigating the opportunities for your child - in person!!! Often, what is on offer in the school system or from the social services is purely in their minds 🙂

Homeschooling would be an option, but what about specialists, therapists etc - healthcare is sure different from the mainland. Most of us have to fly back and forth from the mainland for all sorts of silly and unforseen reasons - it can eat up the dollars.

I rarely have a problem finding companies on the web that ship here. Mostly I use Amazon. They ship here and they have access to everything anyone would ever need.
