Hello all,

As we are thinking about a move from Wisconsin to USVI, we most certainly don't want to leave behind our blue-front Amazon Parrot on the mainland. Has anyone dealt with this challenge? I'm trying to find out about taking a parrot on a plane (something we haven't done before) and am also wondering if the territory has any quarantine rules for parrots from mainland US, and of course whatever other obstacles I have failed to consider.

Anyone?

I am pretty sure you don't need anything but a health certificate from your vet dated within 30 days of your trip. The time might be different! I have never traveled with Birds so I don't know how well they fly on a plane, but lots of people have them down here.

I traveled to Orlando with two penguins behind me and an anteater in front of me. The penguins traveled well and were a *hoot* to watch. Sea World was transferring the animals from one to another. The anteater stank. But the penguins would hold their wings kind of up and out and lean forward when the plane took off. They did the same thing but leaned back when the plane landed. Funny, Funny. Those are the most interesting animals I've seen on a plane but they did fine. I suppose the parrot would go as carry on with a covered cage under the seat in front of you. He'd be fine...

Call American Airlines. Laws on bringing in birds seem stricter. I am bringing over 5 dogs (all large) and they have been the most helpful so far.

Hello,

I had called Fish and Wildlife and the Agriculture Dept. recently about bringing in a pet snake. You might call the Agriculture Dept. to ask about the species of parrot you want to bring to see if they have any special requirements other then the certificates of health. Their number is Dr. Bradford at (340)774-5182

That was fun, I'll say. They actually had like 15 cages of animals on this flight and it was a 'zoo'. HEHEHE. Right up my stuffed animal alley!
