hey all,

I am moving to St Thomas for work on January 4th. I would like to bring my jeep down with me but I am having trouble getting a car loan that allows me to move the car to St Thomas from the states. Any suggestions?

Excited to move down!

Most companies/banks won't let you move a car to the VI if there is still a debt on it. It's not your car. It's theirs.

You'll have to pay off the balance to get a release from them to ship it here. If you can't then you'll have to sell it there and buy one here.

You can't ship a car nor register one here unless you have something in a writing (with at least 3 original copies of the release form) from whomever the lender is.

go to penfed.org Pentagon fed. credit union. If you search penfed on this board there is info from others on their ability to refi a loan in the states and get their permission to transport the car to the VI. We opened accounts with them years ago after being told of their willingness to deal with the VI, and have found them good for auto financing, credit cards, etc. Customer service is good as well, and they are available on the phone every day and almost every hour of the day.

This might be a long shot, but you could try asking the shipping company. If you get the right person on the phone, they would know what lenders they see on the paperwork, particularly if just a few show up over and over.
