poorthang,
I don't believe that the beef is with riders taking "evasive" action inorder to stay safe. The beef it seems that some have with riders is them taking "advantage" action by skipping to the front of the line at a light or gliding through traffic on the line between lanes. Of course you must do what keeps you safe. However, I find it hard to believe that safety is the concern that causes SOME riders to make the maneuvers I referenced above. Safe riding also includes obeying the laws that every driver and rider must follow. With that said a skip in line does not and never will justify attempting to run a rider off of the road or tailgating a rider. That is simply dangerous behavior on the part of the driver. If that were to happen the "evasive" action is more than warranted.

I have been following this post a while now, and I must chime in. I am a former MX racer, and have all the respect for every rider; street or dirt. However, growing up in L.A. and seeing riders "split" traffic, it gets scary. When changing lanes, or moving forward in traffic, the riders do put themselves at risk. Most people in cars simply do NOT look for bikes, and they have every right to be on the road, enjoying their ride. It is dangerous to "split' traffic, but some places do allow it. Either way, appreciate the rider's choice and look for the bike first.
LIVE TO RIDE; RIDE TO LIVE! In my experience; Fly 'em like they have wings!:@)
