Most, if not all, airlines will not accept ferrets. Double check with the air carriers first to see if they will permit this.

I had a ferret as a pet before I moved here and this is NOT the ideal place for a ferret. Yours will probably be the only one on island...but lots of mongoose (mongeese?), though!

I've seen half a dozen pet ferrets on St. Croix. Not sure how the owners got them here, though... unless they smuggled them onboard their airplane as a skinny cat. 🙂

You can arrange a private airplane to bring you and your ferret here from Miami, but it'll cost you about $5000 for the trip. Some people with large dogs, dogs on medication, people with birds, etc. opt for this route to get them here rather than drug them and put them in the hold of a commercial aircraft. But the price tag is definitely high. How much do you love your ferret?

I don't see why you couldn't put it into a small, collapsable-style, pet carrier that fits under the seat in front of you....or even in a large purse! He'd probably just curl up and go to sleep!

I love her a lot but I am mostly concerned about her quality of life once she gets there.

I asked a similar question about taking my cat to STT when we moved here. Lots of people advised against it. Well, we decided we couldn't part with her and brought her anyway...best decision we made! She absolutely LOVES the island, stays in our yard for the most part and we're so happy we brought her. I would feel even more comfortable bringing a ferret here than a cat, since our cat is free to go outside, she is exposed to more dangers. Your ferret will be safe inside your house/apt. If you feel it would be too hard to part with her, I would say, bring her! But I agree with the above poster, make sure you check with your airline before pondering this question anymore - that could be the definitive answer right there.
