Well it has been two years of living on STX and I still would not leave if I were kicked off of the island. Wow alot has happende in that two years. I've bought a nice house in Hannas rest . Gone through two trucks. The first one was bought on the island from a Hovensa employee. I had it three weeks and some rasta came up to me and said that I owed him $1,500 dolars for it. Good try Ras but no banana today. I then traded it in for the truck that I have now. Carribean Auto Mart ripped me off on that one. I guess that I made a mistake by dealing with Bob. That truck was from Florida so no rasta can say that I owe him more money on it. My neighbors are police. The woman, who calls the man her husband, and the man calls her his girl friend. She told me that she was going to shoot my dogs because she is a cop and has a gun. She has never done anything but teach her young children how to tease a pit bull. People here just can't help but tease dogs. It is like crack cocaine to an addict. They just cant help themselves. Now I have to build a $10,000 fence arround my house to protect them from the situation that they have created with my dogs. The fence I have now is not to keep the dogs in it is to keep theives and other malcontents out.
I have been working as a first mate off shore fishing with one of the best charter captains that that I have ever seen. Man this guy can really fish. I am in the process of getting my captains license and will soon have my oun inshore charter business. The fishing is rather good because no one ever fishes like that here. I just came back from my first trip off of the island since I moved here. It is very refreshing to not have to wait until the waitress finnishes her lunch before you can order yours.
The main thing that I have noticed here about discrimination here is not racism. It is classism. The rich never associate with the middle class or the poor. No mater what you look like, if you are not Westindian or Puerto Rican you probably will not get equal treatment. The other day at the airport my wife was parked waiting for me to get my luggage. In a fire zone with ten other cars and she was the only one asked to move. Probably because the officer knew that she was the only person who would listed the rules. Some times I see more cars parked in the fire zone at K- Mart than are in the parking lot.
If you are thinking about moving here expect to have some tough times. This is far from paradice. I believe that paradice is a state of mind any way.
