Approximately how far is Buck Island from STX (Christiansted)? And, does it have public docks or a marina?

Thanks

It's about 6 miles from C'sted.

Buck Island has nothing. It's a nataure preserve. The tour boats moor on the beach side and you swim/wade onto the beach.

If you kayak over, you pack everything in and pack everything out. Not even a trash can.

Look to the North and East from C-sted, the area around Buck Island is a beautiful shallow reef with lots of fish. Take water and snorkel gear for a great time..... there
are no facilities or structures on the island...... Its great.

Hi all,

I'm here - living in STX. Wasn't too difficult to adjust to. However, I only have 4 minutes left on the computer at the library and have a quick question. How can I CHEAPLY get to Buck Island? I don't need a tour, so I don't want to spend $40 pp. Is there a cheaper way?

Thanks much. I'm only using the library computers now for internet connection so I'll check back in a few days. Feel free to e-mail me directly.

Hello Bou'ya,

Try befriending someone with a boat so you can go out with them :-). The crab races sometimes have the Buck Island trip as a prize - so that might be an incentive to attend and bet on a couple crabs.

Not sure of any cheaper ways then the charters. Saw Linda mentioned kayaking over - if you could rent a kayak that might work.
