Bumper/window stickers

Hi, This may seem like a really stupid question but, are bumper stickers or window stickers permitted on your car in the V.I.? In the wonderful state of N.J. you can't have a oil change reminder sticker in the corner of your windshield! You can get a ticket or fail inspection. I have bumper stickers on my back window now and was warned once Thanks, John

I have no idea what is legal or illegal, except our inspection sticker goes on our windshield, but LOTS of vehicles have all kinds of stuff all over their windows. It's quite the thing amoung the local youth, or even older folk, to have "sayings" across the front windshield, usually up high. My all time favorite: "A Fu Me Sudden", on a car often seen in Red Hook for years. Does anyone have a clue what that means?

That's a good one Juanita! My guess is "Offer me something" or "All of a Sudden? ?!? I always liked "An so wa"

I'd have to say that it would take a lot to get in trouble for a window decal or bumper sticker. There's a "Crew" called the All Out Krew and they usually have souped up cars with a MASSIVE white decal that completely covers the back window. Not quite sure how they can see out of it.

I wanted to get one that said "I DO IT ON THE GRILL" but...thought that would be too tacky 😀

Yeah, I love the windshield sayings. My fave is "Ghetto Fabulous" -- that was on a friend's car awhile back. I've always been meaning to get one that says "De Nug Blaza" or something to that effect, but I just never get around to it.

Highlander,

Several points:

1. I hope no one is ever deterred from asking a question. Relocating to the VI can be a mysterious process. There are no stupid questions. You should see some of the questions I've asked on this forum! And members have been enormously kind in responding.

2. As to your questions, a sticker showing the month of registration is required to be placed in the lower right corner (passenger side) of the windshield. I also have placed a marina sticker on the lower left corner (driver side) of the windshield, as instructed by the marina staff.

3. Long ago, I did a statistical study that showed that, given there is a discretionary bumper sticker or window sticker, the probability that there is more than one sticker is extremely high. I think the probability was about 85 percent. I find that figure about the same in the VI.

My personal favorite here is on (I think) a tow truck. The large letters across the top of the front windshield read, "Who Yo Rollin' Wit?" I can only assume that that must be the Crucian phrasing for "Who are you going to call if you need someone to tow your vehicle?", which is obviously longer and not nearly as memorable. 😀

I've seen cars here that are literally held together with hundreds of stickers:D

The sayings on the windshields can be very amusing!

When we were starting to issue new parking stickers at the condo, I asked a police officer if it was illegal to have stickers. She didn't know and directed me to the sub station by Csted. They didn't know. They directed me to DMV. They didn't know. They never got back to me with an answer.
