Burn ban in place for V.I.

A ban on outdoor burning has been put into effect across the Virgin Islands until further notice.

"It is appropriate that this ban be put in place as a precaution due to the dry weather and recent increase of brush fires," V.I. Fire Service Assistant Director Daryl George said.

For more information, contact the Arson and Prevention Unit at 773-8050 or 774-7610.

They usually do ban burning and do not issue permits which are mandatory when the islands get so dry but people don't respect the ban and willingly set fires, unfortunately. It's pretty dry this days in STT compared to how lush and green it was just a month ago. Temperature seems to be heating up early this year, too and it's only April.

I'll admit I had a fire once in hull on the beach but last week I realized just how BAD of an idea it was. Lots of people have been having fires in hull and last week while walking in the sand my feet were completly black from the ash, I can only imagine how bad it is for the ocean life. I won't be having a fire anymore on the beach. 🙁 lesson learned.
