Pets with Wings is a wonderful organization which partners with other cities to fly animals to be adopted. Travelers are needed to the Boston area and other destinations. Call Rhea at 340-643-0796 or 340-775-0599.

Travelers should give the Shelter 3 days notice prior to flying out.
American Airlines and Jet Blue are carriers that will take dogs and cats.

Is Pets with Wings paying for the cost of transport and the carrier, or are they seeking travelers who will pay for the pets as well as carry them?

American Airlines pays for the transportation, the animals simply need a human to accompany them on the flight and they're picked up at the airport on the receiving end.

Does American airlines allow birds on their flights? The last time I checked, the only flights that allow birds was Delta.

I thought I saw American Airlines ended the free transport for shelter animals last year.

Here's the article:

Did they keep the program?

That's good to hear. I will pass on the info, I don't know that everyone knows that it's still going on.

But then again, this was in cabin transport and not in cargo.

If interested in participating in this wonderful program that gets our island's animals adopted instead of euthanized, please contact the STT Humane Society/Reah for details and to answer all your questions.

I am heading back to Ohio next month with connections in PR and probably Charlotte or Atlanta. I will contact the humane society to see if I can be of any help!
