My wife and I are moving to STX this weekend. We need to buy a car . I found out about the import tax on vehicles built outside the US. If purchased on STT or Puerto Rico does the tax apply? Anyone know??
Thanks
CR

If vehicle already here in VI, no customs duty.
If importing from off island- PR, it depends on the make of car.
If vehicle and all componants not made in USA then you shall have to pay customs duty, plus road tax, etc.to import.
The rates vary depending on where made: Germany, Japan, Mexico, etc.

There is no shortage of good vehicles in the VI and great deals on St. Croix in particular as the population outflow continues.

I agree, check Craigslist they have a ton of them. But make sure who ever you buy the car from especially a private party to have a mechanic check it over first.
