Hi Richard,

I too am a graphic designer, also from Maryland. Baltimore to be exact. After coming to StX on vacation my girlfriend and i decided to move here almost 2 years ago. There are no agencies or stuidos on the island that hire full time designers. There are a few jobs in the paper(every now and then) looking for a graphic artisit but those ads are few and far between. The companies are usually printers or silkscreen places as well as some stateside companies that have moved here as part of the EDC program(Economic Development Commission). Over all, there haven't been too many ads.

I decided to set up shop myself and work out of my condo. This seems to be the same story for most of the designers I have met here. And there are a few of us on island. The clients are out there and with a little work, patience and lots of word-of-mouth, you can quickly build up a steady work load.

As for the videography, well, I just recently got into that myself. I learned Final Cut pPo here and have helped in completing two projects so far. Hopefully starting work on two more. Like I said, it takes a little time to meet people, then convince them to hire you and pay you a decent wage but the work is out there.
