My husband and I are planning to move to St. Thomas in the fall. Here are some questions maybe someone can help me with.

We plan on buying a new car when we get there, our cars in Florida are not worth shipping. If we have not changed our Florida licenses to a St. Thomas license can we get car insurance?

I know there is no sales tax in St. THomas, but is there some kind of tax when you purchase a new car?

When getting a new license I see you have to have a physical, does it have to be from a doctor on St. THomas or can it be from a doctor in Florida, also I see you need to know your blood type, do they take you word, or do you have to have a note from a doctor or nurse?

Thanks for any help. I know I will have many more questions in the coming months.

-Yes. But, you are supposed to get your VI license w/in 30 days of moving. Operative word being "supposed"! haha! Most people wait until their Statside license is about to expire before they trade it in for a VI license. And, I think that is a good idea, as you may find that island life is not for you. About 50% of the people that move here don't even make it a year before they move back.

-As far as tax goes, I think there is a road tax, but I am not sure of the amount, if any. I always buy 'em used! haha! And, you might want to do that, too, until you are sure that you are going to make this your permanent home. Just MHO.

-I would wait until you get here to do the physical. They *might* accept the stateside Dr., but, you never know. It really depends on the person's mood that day! haha!
