Gasline Stations STX

Just wondering?

Does anyone have an explination of why gas stations on STX seem to run out of gas frequently?

Seems strange since STX is the home of the second largest refinery in the Western Hemisphere and most stations on STX buy directly from the refinery.

Also wondering why when a station is out of gas they can't put up a sign you could read from the road stating no gas. Nothing I hate more than pulling into two sold out stations in a row.

Yes life in the islands is always interesting.

Still wondering if there was some reason for the gas outages, such as the refinery only sells gas to local wholesalers on Monday & Thursday afternoons or you can't drive gas tankers on public roads at certain time.

Thought someone might know a gas station owner and if there is a logical reason for no gas or truly an island thing that defies what we would consider logic.

Jim,

As you know, some questions about the USVI do not have answers! I asked a station attendant about this today and even he doesn't know. He said a driver will sometimes deliver to other stations first, then run out of gas for his station. He said sometimes, a driver shows up at his place when delivery isn't scheduled!

Well I guess we will let it go at that.

Explains why the Rockefellers could afford to buy half of St John, but you probably won't here of some Crucian oil magnate buying a big chunk of real estate state side.

Which would you rather have?
Small town in the desert (once visited by aliens) with a very large refinery 40 minutes down the road.
Price of gas in Roswell: $1.85.
Price in the town where refinery is located (Artesia): $1.65.
Price in Las Cruces (200 miles West): $155.
Price in Clovis (120 miles North): $145.

Number of jobbers (crooks selling the stuff) in our corner of the world: 2.

Watching one of those jobbers hauled away in handcuffs: Priceless.
