Car Insurance St. Thomas

I'm in a catch-22! We want to ship our car down from Maryland to St. Thomas, and the shipping company can have it registered and plated, ready to drive when we arrive in August--but they need local car insurance info. But I have not been able to insure my vehicle for St. Thomas without being down there. None of the large insurance companies offer coverage, and I have not found a local car insurance company that will insure the car without me being there. I looked at temporary and overseas coverage, but since St. Thomas is a US territory it does not qualify. Only countries OUTSIDE the US qualify for this insurance. So we are in some no-man's land of car insurance. Can anyone help?

We are using Managed Freight. Actually, after about 2 hours of internet research and calling the island I talked to Edit from St. John's insurance who will allow us to get insured by fax. Yes!

Hi, I plan to relocate to St Thomas and was looking for insurance quote for my car. cannot find any online services to get a quote. I have a few questions:

1. Is it better to sell car here in US and buy at St Thomas? (average $10 000)
2. Is there any Phone # i can call and get a quote.
3. What is the average cost to ship 2 door coupe to the St Thomas from US and get registered?

Thank you
