We are looking to rent a car for a month Dec 15-Jan 14. Avis wants over $1500, would like to keep the price around $500. Zip does not answer their phone or emails.

If you find any outfit that is willing to rent a car for a month for $500 - please do let me know. (Seriously, we need one).

You're kind of late in renting for the holidays. I'd be surprised if they still have vehicles available.
Have you tried Hertz?
If you are a AAA member Hertz gives a 10% discount.
Also, what size car are you requesting?

Avis and Budget both have cars, as does "Discount" rental. However the lowest monthly rate is about $900 (give or take $50). Hertz is quite a bit more expensive, even with 10% discount.
