Hello everyone,
I am thinking about moving to st.croix with my girlfriend, she is german (white) and I am Black,we currently run a small autorepair shop in california, and would like to move to st croix to do the same. When I was there in marrch 2004 i realized a lot f people had a hard time when I asked them where a good repair shop on the island was. I have been thinking about this more and more lately, the cost of living is about the same as california but how about the wages. I would really like to hear from anyone that could shed some insight. With my solid automotive background I really believe this would be a great opportunity and make things easier or am i dreaming. A good auto technician in california makes a very professional salary. But from what I am being told a good auto technician in st.croix has trouble paying his/her bills. I definately will try to come down for a few more weeks soon and check it out better.I have a few friends that live on the island. the only things holding me back are finding a decent place to live and knowing maybe that my dreams of a nice small repair shop might be difficult or finding a decent paying job as a mechanic might be very hard...
Well have a nice holiday and hopefully i will see some of you soon.

Tim, I'm also an auto tech looking to relocate to STX. I haven't done a PMV yet, but I did find this wage info on the Bureau of Labor Statistics website: Median wage for auto mechanics in the Virgin Islands is 13.27/ hr. or $27,600/yr. This was for 2003. Not too encouraging huh? My guess is that this probably applys more towards STT. STX might be less. Please share with me any info that you come up with. Thanks
