A friend told me she heard the news so I googled it:

http://www.virginislandsnewsonline.com/en/news/us-senator-usvi-port-authority-head-arrested-in-st-croix/

Not much news is reported there, other than they were arrested in a Federal investigation.

There was nothing in The Avis this morning but I'd love to read more about this.

I'm sure it's something big considering Dowe's corrupt background and the opportunities for malfeasance that he has as head of the Port Authority.

I was wondering what the heck loudmouth White has been up to since he was voted out of the Senate. Look at this! Sure looks like a shady business to me. Expeditor? How about bribe-taker?

I especially love "Barriers Knocked Down" on page 10.

Yeah, I'm sure with Carlton Dowe's help, a whole heap of barriers have been knocked down for folks with a lot of $$$$$!!!!

I've no particular fondness for Mr White but don't understand the fuss about his business website. The business service he offers are offered by many and are perfectly legitimate. "Expediter" isn't a dirty word nor does it connotate illegal practices. Nor does one have to have plenty of $$$$s to use the services.

It was far more effective and cost-beneficial for me to have an "expediter" renew my annual business license than to waste all that time finding a parking spot in town and going to different agencies to get all the paperwork delivered when he took care of all that for me. All I had to do was make out the cheques to the government agencies involved and then, when he delivered my license(s) a couple of weeks later, write out a cheque to him for his services. And his price was most reasonable.

Doing business with any government agency shouldn't require an 'expediter'. (Note I'm neither referring to nor criticizing your process OT). I consider any current or prior government employee blatantly touting preferential treatment in the process of obtaining government services, for a fee, corruption.

Rules and processes need to be equally applied to all (ok that's utopian in blue sky world). But for f*'s sake, corruption AND nepotism at any level of the government is abhorable and our current overabundance in the territory is sickening. I'm glad we are seeing a crackdown. Of course carrying it through to stiff sentences for those guilty would be bloody nice too.

The USVI Courts do not serve justice or this man, Saldana, who is already out of prison on supervisory release, which he began several months ago would not have been out to brutally beat and murder is wife. The DN article states: It is unclear why he already was out after District Judge Curtis Gomez sentenced Saldana in February 2011 to three years and five months in prison.
WOW! Such a harsh sentence for obstruction of justice, extortion and bribery by a police captain! (not)

Here's a link to his most current crime. http://virginislandsdailynews.com/news/ex-v-i-capt-saldana-s-wife-had-dislocated-jaw-crushed-windpipe-when-her-body-arrived-at-hospital-police-say-1.1680858

The types of sentences handed down for police and government officials who betray their office and the public's trust rarely fit the crime and they get a slap on the wrist and reduced sentences.

So far - nothing on the VI Source or Daily News regarding Dowe and White. Tried to listen in to radio news so may have missed it.

Any updates?

And now you know why they all did not run for reelection the last time out. Patrick Hill and Usie Richards are probably next.

Alvin Williams probably helped the feds seal the deal on them.

We are certainly "way overdue" for Federal Intervention into the rampant corruption displayed here in our islands.

Sure took them long enough to arrest him.
Hope he doesn't just get a slap on the wrist minimal sentence like Ex Police Chief Saldana.
The VI Legislature should be a hotbed of panic about now.

Doing business with any government agency shouldn't require an 'expediter'.

I think you're still misunderstanding that people who expedite business services for clients are doing something illegal. Such services exist all over the globe and are perfectly legitimate. You can file a lawsuit against someone and go to court yourself or you can pay an attorney to represent your interests - the analogy fits. You can prepare your own income taxes or you can hire someone to do them for you, The list is endless.

If you've ever opened up a business you would know that particularly the initial set-up can be a very frustrating and time-consuming ordeal - not just here but elsewhere (and I've owned businesses both here and stateside). Dealing with governmental agencies is rarely a walk in the park wherever you may be. Utilizing the services of a professional is a no-brainer in many cases.

As I said, I have no particular fondness for Mr. White but to lambast him for perceived illegitimate dealings based on his business website which is a very simple one is in my opinion way off base.

Ok so if the ex senator White's dealings are so legitimate, as you want to think, then WHY have the Feds arrested him in conncection with the HEAD of the Port Authority???? hmm....something must not have been on the up and up there.

Of course I know that most expeditor businesses are legal, but that doesn't mean they all are, esp. when someone with White's "connections" are running such a business.

Lest we forget:
Donastorg requested this audit by the VI Office of the Inspector General prior to his running for Gov.

http://www.viig.org/pdf/audits/VI-IN-VIS-0001-2010.pdf
It's all right there in black & white. Read it & weep. ( or be very pissed off as the case might be)

Here's the link for other audits done by the VIOIG.
They have had their work cut out for them!

There has been absolutely nothing yet divulged as to why he was allegedly arrested (and this allegedly happened two days ago) so one cannot assume that it has anything to do with his private business. Idle gossip and speculation serves no purpose.
