Cat Food

Hi. It's me again. I swear I'm not trying to win the "nit-pickiest post" award, but I have another stupid question. Those of you have followed my rambling posts to date, know that I'm moving to St. John with two cats.

One of my cats has digestive problems, which is controlled with Science Diet Sensitive Stomach cat food. This is easily picked up in 20 lb bag at PetSmart (as is my favorite litter - Fresh Step - in 40 lb bags). However, I don't expect to be able to run to PetSmart in Cruz Bay (and even if I could, I don't think I could carry those bags on a walk back to wherever I find a place to live. I'm a wimp.)

So, can I find Science Diet on St. John or do I need to start shipping large bags of it to myself General Delivery before I come? What is the pet supply market down there?

Hi Jen,

If your cat absolutely has to have a particular type of food, I would recommend ordering a supply to have on hand. You might be able to purchase Science Diet Sensitive Stomach Cat food from a veterinarian or a pet supply store on STT or STJ, but even if you can, you cannot count on it being in stock when you need it 100% of the time.

I know our vet carries Science Diet (Imperial Animal), so I imagine that other vets may too.
Try the vet in Red Hook. Dr. Moore?

I found a phone book:

Dr Moore is in Red Hook. 340.775.6623

Cruz Bay Canines (your best bet) is 340.693.7780

Canines Cats and Critters carries Science Diet as far as I know, but whether or not it's always in stock is a different story. I buy puppy food every single time I go to Starfish and they have it in stock, b/c they are often out. Like mell said, if you absolutely need one particular item, it's best to have it on hand already, or to make sure you have someplace you can order it from. Shopping for anything, especially specialized pet foot, is very hit and miss here.
