Just wondering who the best cellular provider would be on St. John if I'm going to be doing a lot of calling back home while I'm there? I know reception is bad for any phone in certain places but my phone just sucked while others were OK.

We stayed on the south side of STJ last summer - zero Cingular, zero Alltel, zero Sprint....up above Fish Bay? Cingular did fine while right in town, though.

Hello,

As far as calling home you'd need to get a nationwide, free long distance type plan and then you should be all set.

I have heard that Cingular gets a little better overall reception on St. John over Sprint, however like you said they both have areas where they lose signal.

cingular works everywhere except certain area by the Westin. Sprint does not work over near gift hill and other area. just figure out where you will live. also becareful they (cingular) tries to charge roaming charges because sometimes you bounch off the BVI towers.
